British hacking scandal could gain U.S. legal scrutiny

A specific US law that NewsCorp will likely have broken:

that might violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)… described as “a U.S. law that generally prohibits the payment of money or anything of value to a foreign official for a business purpose.

And of course, since NewsCorp is a US company that’s publicly traded here, they’d be bound by this law.

On top of that, it all may merit a separate investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission for falsifying expense reports (for example, paying a bribe and listing it on an expense report as “office supplies”).
