A week or so back I commented on why I was concerned about BYOD and its potential intrusion into my private life. Looks like the trend for that has been noticed.
ComputerWorld UK has just put up an article pointing out that BYOD users are working about 20 extra unpaid hours a week because of their increasing inability to disconnect.
Being in IT, and given that my company already distributes Blackberries, it’s difficult enough to disconnect as it is. But by using my own personal device for work stuff as well, it’s impossible to get away, unless you leave your personal device at home, which of course you don’t want to do.
It will be a few years before this all shakes out, but once more employees start feeling this trend, I’ll be very interested in seeing what happens.
